Staffordshire Physician Associate Internship
Following the successful launch of our first two cohorts of Physician Associates to the Staffordshire Internship scheme, we are now in a position to expand this amazing opportunity and recruit a further 12 PAs to commence in June and September 2018
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of something really unique as you continue your professional development as a Physician Associate.
Originally conceived by the North Staffordshire GP Federation and The University Hospitals of the North Midlands working in partnership, the scheme now includes other secondary care providers and a growing list of enthusiastic GP practices across the county.
This unique opportunity offers either newly qualified or 1st year post qualifying PAs to spend time in both primary and secondary care, whilst continuing their professional development.
How it works
Working 3 days a week in a local GP Practice you’ll support the GP team and primary care staff; with a further 2 days per week in secondary care within a chosen specialism from acute medicine including A&E, outpatients and mental health; you’ll be supporting a team of Consultants, Junior Doctors, Nursing staff and Therapists within the department and wards.
It is also anticipated that there may be opportunities to concentrate on working 5 days in General Practice.
You’ll assess and examine patients, manage a specific caseload of patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations and recommend treatment, whilst exercising a high level of professional judgment and expertise when delivering care.
You’ll be supervised by a designated Consultant and work alongside a highly-trained and committed multi-disciplinary team, working collaboratively with other members of the clinical team within the Trust’s policies and clinical guidelines
This is a very exciting, very rewarding but demanding environment.
In addition to the training and support provided with the joint roles, the internship offers you an excellent opportunity to attend weekly ½ day educational sessions to complete a bespoke Primary Care Syllabus for those PAs particularly in their first 1-2 years post qualifying. In addition, we have an exciting opportunity to work towards accreditation of the educational package at PGCert level. This also allows you to network with all PAs on the internship on a weekly basis
Length of the programme is 1 year
What you need
You’ll hold a science-related degree prior to graduating from an established UK Physician Associate Training programme, which follows the Department of Health’s Competence Curriculum Framework.

Successfully passed or will be sitting the next UK National Physician Associate Examination.
You will also be registered with the Managed Voluntary Register for Physician Associates prior to commencing the internship.

Quick thinking, flexible and thorough professionals will find the post to their liking.
